FAQ

Answers That Help You Move Forward
  • What should I expect during a divorce process?

Every divorce is unique, but most involve filing paperwork, resolving property and financial issues, alimony and support, and addressing address custody, visitation and  support if children are involved.

  • How long does an uncontested divorce take in South Carolina?

An uncontested divorce in South Carolina can take substantially less time than a contested case.  If the parties have reached a full and complete agreement, we offer reduced fees to handle your uncontested divorce.

  • What happens if my spouse and I can’t agree on property division?

When couples cannot agree, the parties will be required to attend mediation prior to the court scheduling a final hearing.  This process can be lengthy and costly.

  • Can I change custody or support orders after divorce?

Modifiability is typically determined in the prior court order.  The division of property and debts is typically not modifiable while alimony may or may not be depending on the terms of the agreement or order.  Changes regarding minor children are modifiable, but modification requires the showing of a substantial and material change in circumstances.
